Water Harvesting 101 Podcast: Episode 3 – Recycling “Used” Water

You know what? I hate to let perfectly good water go down the drain!

And, with that sentiment strongly expressed, it’s time to address the third of the three activities of water harvesting, recycling “used” water.

At my place, I turn laundry day into water harvesting day by sending the “used” water out to my four fruit trees, a Meyer lemon, a fig, and two pomegranate trees.

In this episode, I discuss greywater harvesting with my washing machine and drainage plumbing. The episode includes this pro tip: Read the label on your soap! Most of them contain sodium compounds, and those are toxic to trees and other plants.

Instead, I recommend the Oasis brand of dish and laundry soaps, which I purchase at the Food Conspiracy Co-op here in Tucson. You can also buy these soaps at The Rain Store.
